Fresh off the back of his last Piston outing – Be There EP - Belgian DJ and producer Marius Acke is back with his third Piston release which is another sublime deep house offering in the form of the tracker Subocean EP. In the early 90's Marius was inspired by the grooves of Chaka Khan, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Bobby Brown and Masters at Work. It wasn't long before he started DJing and thinking about making his own beats. He has been producing deep house on the Wally’s Groove World label and his album Balance was nominated for the Zamu awards. He also works alongside Rubba J on their Deepwater project and he regularly spins at various clubs including Café d’Anvers, Café Capital, Bar Tabac where you can always expect a deep, warm, groovy and driving DJ set.

Reef Inspector intros with a nice and solid kick drum which is joined by stuttering hi hats and cool percussions. Classic style saw synths stab out a cool pattern alongside soulful vocals and a superb analogue style bassline. A very distinct clubby sound is on offer here and the track oozes a retro vibe that will definitely get the floors jumping. A must have no doubt.

Payenjo opens with a tight drum arrangement that sets up a real smooth rhythmic flow to the track. An acid style punchy bassline comes through, bringing a very nice Chicago groove to the track. Spoken vocals add character whiles mesmerizing pads fade up in the background. Subtle melodies cut through the much deeper bassy elements giving off strong contrasts and making the track diverse and appealing. Top notch grooves for the serious floors, not to be missed.

Electric Boogie sets out with a classic kick drum followed by a shuffling hi hat rhythm. Spacey filtered synths carve out a hypnotic pattern before the sub level, probing bassline takes control. Retro vocal shots add flavour and will definitely raise an eyebrow for the discerning listener. The midway point boasts huge synth stabs that really take us back to the glory days. A very nice cut with a very dancey groove that will not disappoint.
